How to care for post-summer skin

Last weekend we combined a little business with a little bit of sneaky pleasure. We were on the road visiting some stores around the mid north coast area.

It was a little business mission that also allowed for a final summer fling... Phoebe took the opportunity to compete in the BCU Coffs Harbour Triathlon. (We’ll let you know how she went at the end) :)

The mid north coast turned on some beautiful day time weather but at night you could feel the change in the air - summer was over and autumn was here.

And (as usual) it got us thinking about skin.

Achieving healthy, post-summer skin can be quite the face-off (pun intended). The sun is a force to be reckoned with, and a battle your skin rarely wins.

Even if you practice being sun safe on the regular, your skin may look and feel worse for wear coming into the cooler months.

Worse yet, that chill in the air can also mean further changes to your skin. We’re talking flaky patches, mystery breakouts, and the sudden appearance of sun spots, which is not a summer memento we want to hold on to.

Don’t start planning your move to a warmer climate just yet — here’s how to tackle post-summer skin (HINT: it’s not rocket science).

1. Exfoliate.

From laps in the pool and a deadly combination of sunscreen and makeup, chances are there’s a truckload of grime and dirt clogging your pores. Exfoliating and cleansing at least once a week, or more will protect your skin from further breakouts and make you feel clean from tip to toe.

Our award winning ‘Spoonful of Sugar’ exfoliating scrub is a perfect way to treat sensitive skin and soften the leathery effects of the sun and forthcoming fa-reeeezing weather conditions. Exfoliating can also help with clearing blemished skin, fading scars, ingrown hairs, softening skin and making your complexion glow.

And did you know that our 'Pig In Mud' Mineral Mask works as an exfoliator too? It's very clever. Just give your face a lovely massage just before washing it off.

But please don't scrub and mask on the same day because it might be too much for your skin.

2. Tone.

We know LOTS of people don’t tone, but there’s a good reason to!! Even though you’ve rinsed and cleansed, toning is another way to leave your skin free of nasties and any also any cleanser residue.

Our ‘Raindrops on Roses’ Hydrating Tonic can be used for hydrating, rejuvenating, rebalancing and refreshing your skin. It can also come to your rescue whenever your skin is feeling tired or looking dull (if you have oily or combination skin, try our ‘Tickled Pink’ Perfecting Tonic instead).

Just spray and (optionally) wipe. Toning done!

3. Moisturise.

After fully exfoliating, breathing moisture back into your skin is a MUST! Changing to a moisturiser with antioxidant rich vitamins helps your skin to reverse the signs of summer and remain soft-as-a-petal.

Perform a double act and combine your moisturising cream and oil! All of our happy moisturisers work together so you can mix and match to your heart’s content :)

If you have dry to normal skin, you might opt for a lightweight and breathable moisturising cream like the ‘Perfectly Happy’ Light Anti-Oxidant cream with vitamin C in conjunction with a highly concentrated elixir like ‘Good Vibes’ Omega Facial Oil.

That way you get a dose of sun spot busting Vit C and supreme hydration benefits of omega 3,5,6,7 and 9.

If your skin is in need of a little more attention (i.e. your whole body!), our ‘TLC’ Intensive Repair Oil will help reduce the appearance of scars and stretchmarks, while locking in moisture and allowing your skin to breathe. (We’ve got a smattering of other body moisturising goodness too… click here.)

Although none of this is ground breaking information, sometimes we get in a rut and don’t know what would best fix our sun-worn skin.

Completing all of the above and paying particular attention to cracked, dry or sun damaged areas will generate happier and better looking skin. And a happier you. PROMISE!!!

Phoebe’s 1st Olympic Distance Triathlon

Ok we know you have been hangin’ out to hear how Phoebe went and she did amazing.

Over the last 3 months she somehow juggled training around family life, Mum commitments and business.

For those who are not Triathlon aficionados Olympic Distance includes a 1.5km swim, 40km bike ride and a 10km run.

It’s not the longest you can do but it is still a mighty effort. Phoebe beat her expectations on the day finishing the course in 3hrs and 23 minutes.

Like most of the other triathletes on the day it was not about going for gold but rather achieving a goal they set for themselves.

The triathlon community are supportive bunch, every finisher is cheered across the line as they know that it’s not all about crossing the line 1st.

Here’s to achieving your goals, big and small! And relishing in the aftermath ;)
